Delta Construction Consultants Ltd provided Registered Building Control Approver services for the refurbishment of an existing building at the Veolia waste site at Tyseley, Birmingham, transforming the facility to provide a new visitor centre, additional office accommodation and a range of supporting buildings.

The Tyseley facility, operated by Veolia on behalf of Birmingham City Council, is a major energy-from-waste site operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The facility receives up to 350,000 tonnes of Birmingham’s waste each year, converting waste into electricity for the National Grid and providing enough energy to power up to 63,000 homes annually.

The site operates as a two-stream energy-from-waste plant, with each boiler designed to process approximately 23.5 tonnes of waste per hour. As a continuously operational facility, the refurbishment works required careful consideration of the existing site operations, ensuring that the proposed improvements could be delivered while taking into account the requirements of a complex and highly active waste management environment.

The project was designed by PARKdesigned Architects, with Delta working alongside Veolia and the wider project team to provide Building Control oversight throughout the refurbishment. Our role involved supporting the project team with Building Regulations compliance and providing professional advice in relation to the refurbishment and creation of the new visitor, office and supporting facilities.

The Tyseley project formed part of a wider programme of refurbishment and expansion works being undertaken by Veolia across a number of sites throughout the country. Delta Construction Consultants Ltd provided Building Control services as part of Veolia’s ongoing investment in its facilities, supporting the delivery of improvements across its operational estate.

The project demonstrated Delta’s experience in providing Registered Building Control Approver services for complex industrial and operational environments, where careful coordination, technical expertise and consideration of existing site operations are essential. Our involvement supported the delivery of improved facilities while helping to ensure that the works met the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations.
