Delta Construction Consultants Ltd provided Building Regulations Principal Designer advisory services for the development of the new University of Cumbria Citadels campus in Carlisle, supporting the project team throughout the delivery of this major city-centre development.

The project centred around the iconic Citadels buildings, together with land adjacent to Carlisle Crown Court incorporating the former Woolworths and Burton’s buildings. The development established a significant new University of Cumbria presence within the heart of Carlisle, bringing together existing buildings and new university facilities to create an important addition to the city centre.

Delta’s role involved providing specialist advice in relation to Building Regulations compliance and the wider responsibilities of the project Dutyholders. Working alongside the client, architects and wider professional team, Delta supported the project throughout its development, helping to ensure that Building Regulations considerations were appropriately addressed from design through to construction.

The project brought together a multidisciplinary team including University of Cumbria, DAY Architectural Ltd, Purcell, DPP and Identity Consult, with Delta providing specialist Building Regulations consultancy as part of the wider project team. The development presented a range of considerations associated with working within existing buildings and a prominent city-centre location, requiring careful coordination between design, construction and regulatory requirements.

Our advisory role focused on providing clear, practical and informed guidance to help the project team navigate the Building Regulations and Dutyholder requirements throughout the project. Delta’s involvement helped ensure that compliance was considered throughout the design and delivery process, supporting the successful progression of the development.
